Independent Reading

All students are expected to read outside of the school day. Despite how your child may feel, it is not a punishment. ;0) I've attached an example of what students are expected to turn in at the end of each trimester.

If you read the fine print, you will see that if a book is 350 pages or more, I count it as two books. Students are allowed to listen to audiobooks, but no matter how long the printed version is, it will count as one since they didn't read-read it.

Also if a book has been made into a movie, and the student has seen the movie, he/she can still read the book. I do encourage the kids to make the effort to read books that they haven't seen the movie version of because then they are fully engaging their brains. I also understand that seeing the movie first can be helpful for some students' comprehension of the written work.
